Samsung One UI 8.5 Update Unveils New Features

Samsung has officially rolled out its One UI 8.5 update, bringing a host of refinements and new functionalities to users of compatible Galaxy devices. The update, which begins rolling out this week, focuses on enhancing user experience through interface tweaks, performance improvements, and expanded customization options.

The Settings menu has undergone a significant overhaul, organizing options into more intuitive categories and reducing the number of taps required to access common functions. Users will now find quick toggles for network settings, display adjustments, and privacy controls directly on the home screen, accessible via a new dedicated panel.

Samsung has also introduced enhanced navigation gestures, allowing users to switch between apps and navigate the interface using more natural hand movements. The updated gesture-based navigation system reduces accidental inputs and provides haptic feedback for a more responsive feeling.

Battery life improvements are central to this update, with optimizations that Samsung claims will extend device uptime by up to 10% under typical usage scenarios. The update includes smarter power management algorithms that adapt to user behavior patterns, delaying background app refreshes when the device is idle.

Widget updates offer greater customization, with new interactive widgets that provide deeper insights into device performance and quick access to frequently used controls. Users can now customize widget sizes and layouts more flexibly, creating personalized home screen experiences.

The Gallery app receives a major refresh, featuring improved image organization tools and faster loading times. A new AI-powered sorting system automatically groups photos by location, event, or content type, making it easier to find specific memories.

Security enhancements include improved biometric authentication protocols and stronger encryption for sensitive data. The update also brings enhanced privacy controls, giving users more granular options for managing app permissions and data access.

Samsung One UI 8.5 is available now for select Galaxy S22, S22+, S22 Ultra, and Z Fold 4 users, with plans to expand to additional models in the coming months. Users can check for the update in their device settings under Software Update.
