Rishikesh, Uttarakhand – An First Information Report (FIR) has been registered following a complaint lodged by Padma Bhushan awardee and renowned environmentalist, Dr. Ravi Chopra, concerning a murder at a resort in the Tapovan area of Rishikesh. The complaint alleges the involvement of a “VIP” in the incident, prompting a police investigation.
The victim, identified as Prakash Kumar, a resident of Delhi, was found dead under suspicious circumstances at the resort on Wednesday. Initial reports suggest Kumar was involved in a dispute with individuals at the resort prior to his death. Dr. Chopra, who is also the Director of the People’s Science Institute, filed the complaint after expressing concerns about the initial handling of the case and potential attempts to shield the alleged perpetrators due to their influential status.
According to the FIR, Dr. Chopra alleges that the local police were initially reluctant to register a case against the “VIP” and others involved. He claims that evidence was being tampered with and that the investigation was being deliberately stalled. The complaint specifically names several individuals, including the resort owner and others reportedly present at the scene during the incident.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Yashwant Chauhan confirmed the registration of the FIR and stated that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the matter thoroughly. “We have taken Dr. Chopra’s complaint seriously and are conducting a fair and impartial investigation,” Chauhan said. “No one will be spared, regardless of their position or influence.”
