Zoho Co-Founder Sridhar Vembu Warns Against Blind AI Use: “Don’t Copy-Paste AI Text”

Sridhar Vembu, co-founder and chief scientist of Zoho Corporation, has urged businesses and professionals to adopt caution and responsibility when using artificial intelligence (AI) in workplaces. While acknowledging AI’s growing role in accelerating learning and streamlining operations, he warned that unmonitored use could harm productivity and erode trust.

AI’s Potential — and Its Limits

Vembu said AI tools can help make workflows more efficient, improve customer support, and create data-driven insights. However, he stressed that AI should remain an assistant, not a replacement for human creativity, judgement, or decision-making.

“Copying and pasting AI-generated responses without human review is unprofessional,” Vembu noted, adding that AI should augment intelligence, not replace it.

Vembu’s Personal AI Habits

In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Vembu described himself as a “moderate to heavy” AI user.

  • Uses AI chat tools two to three times daily
  • Installed the top five AI apps on his phone
  • Cut down web searching by 80%, relying on AI for faster learning
  • Often makes different AI systems critique each other’s outputs to boost critical thinking

Customer Support and Product Experience

Vembu highlighted how AI can:

  • Support service agents with quicker responses
  • Simplify user interactions with tools like Grok (on X)
But he cautioned that AI should not replace human agents. Passing AI replies as human without disclosure, he said, is unethical and risks breaking customer trust.

AI in Creativity and Coding

For creative work, Vembu advised that AI should only assist humans, not independently produce original content. In software development, he said:

  • AI-generated code must undergo rigorous compliance, privacy, and security checks
  • Skipping reviews could compromise security and slow progress
  • Zoho programmers are encouraged to learn with AI, not rely on it as a coding substitute

Balanced Approach: Experiment, But With Oversight

Vembu advocates a measured use of AI — combining experimentation with accountability:

  • Use AI to enhance productivity and problem-solving
  • Continuously test and refine AI applications based on outcomes
  • Maintain human oversight and ethical responsibility in all workflows

According to Vembu, this balance ensures AI supports innovation without undermining professionalism, security, or creativity.
