When Dharmendra Faced a Knife Attack and Underworld Threats — The True ‘He-Man’ of Bollywood

Veteran actor Dharmendra, fondly known as the “He-Man of Bollywood,” has lived a life as action-packed as his films. Actor-director Satyajeet Puri recently shared remarkable stories that revealed the superstar’s real-life courage — from tackling a knife-wielding fan to fearlessly standing up to the underworld.

Dharmendra’s Bold Warning to the Underworld
During an interview on Friday Talkies, Satyajeet Puri recalled a time when the Mumbai underworld held power over many in the film industry. But Dharmendra was not one to be intimidated. “If you come, the whole Sahnewal will come from Punjab. You have 10 men, I have an army. Say one word, and truckloads will come to fight. Don’t mess with me,” the actor reportedly said.
According to Puri, after this fearless statement, no one dared to threaten Dharmendra again.

When a Fan Attacked Him with a Knife
In another shocking incident, Dharmendra was once attacked by a fan carrying a knife. Instead of panicking, he handled the situation himself — calmly disarming the attacker within seconds. Puri noted, “These days, actors walk with six bodyguards, but back then, Dharmendra and Vinod Khanna would move around freely.”

A Dangerous Stunt During the Film ‘Ghulami’
Dharmendra’s bravery extended to film sets as well. While shooting Ghulami, he insisted on performing a risky horse-riding scene himself. Unfortunately, the horse slipped on marble stairs after urinating nearby. Showing remarkable strength and control, Dharmendra managed to steady the animal and prevent a major accident. He escaped unharmed — and even gave ₹200 to the horse’s owner, concerned about the animal’s well-being.

Satyajeet Puri praised the actor’s unmatched grit, saying, “Any other actor would have been badly hurt, but Dharamji didn’t get a single scratch. His strength and composure were extraordinary.”

On the Work Front
Dharmendra was last seen in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya (2024) alongside Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon. He will next appear in Sriram Raghavan’s Ikkis, starring Agastya Nanda in the lead role.
