Weather Today: IMD Issues Red Alert for Delhi, Heavy Rain Warnings for Uttarakhand and Telangana

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Delhi and parts of Uttarakhand as heavy rains continue to lash several regions of the country. Telangana is also experiencing intense rainfall, prompting officials to prepare for further weather-related challenges.

Delhi Weather Forecast

Delhi woke up to rain showers across the National Capital Region on August 14, bringing relief from the recent heat and humidity. According to IMD, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to continue in the city until August 19.

  • August 14: Mostly cloudy skies with moderate rainfall. Day temperature around 33°C, night around 25°C. Humidity between 80–70%.
  • August 15: Cloudy with spells of rain or thundershowers. Day 32°C, night 24°C. Humidity 85–70%.
  • August 16: One or two showers or thunderstorms likely. Day 32°C, night 23°C. Humidity 90–65%.
  • August 17: Light rain or drizzle under cloudy skies. Day 33°C, night 24°C. Humidity 90–65%.
  • August 18: Showers or thunderstorms. Day 33°C, night 25°C. Humidity 85–60%.

Uttarakhand Under Rain Warnings

The Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority has issued a red alert for heavy to very heavy rain in districts including Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital, and Bageshwar. Other districts are under orange alert until August 17, with some shifting to yellow alerts from August 15. Authorities have advised residents to stay alert and avoid flood-prone areas.

Heavy Rains in Telangana

Telangana has been hit by continuous downpours, with some districts receiving over 20 cm of rainfall in a single day, according to the Telangana Development Planning Society. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has instructed state officials to remain on high alert for the next 72 hours. In Hyderabad, schools have been given half-day holidays, while other districts have declared full-day closures.

With intense rain activity forecast across these states, officials have urged citizens to monitor weather updates closely and take necessary precautions.
