Washington Sundar Out of ODI Series, Badoni Called Up

All-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match One Day International (ODI) series against South Africa due to a right ankle injury, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Sunday. The injury occurred during the second T20I match in St. George’s Park, and further assessment revealed the need for him to undergo rehabilitation.

The BCCI medical team has deemed Sundar unfit for the ODI series, prioritizing his recovery and long-term fitness. He will continue his rehabilitation program under the supervision of the BCCI medical staff and is expected to regain full fitness in due course. The extent of his recovery timeline hasn’t been specified, leaving his participation in future tournaments uncertain.

Ayush Badoni Earns Maiden Call-Up

In a significant development, young Delhi Capitals batsman Ayush Badoni has received his first call-up to the Indian ODI squad. He has been named as Washington Sundar’s replacement for the remainder of the South Africa series. This presents a golden opportunity for the 24-year-old to showcase his talent on the international stage.

Badoni has been a consistent performer in domestic cricket, particularly in the Indian Premier League (IPL) where he plays for Delhi Capitals. Known for his aggressive batting style and ability to finish games, he has impressed selectors with his versatility. He is a right-handed batsman who also bowls off-spin, adding another dimension to his game.

The selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, has been closely monitoring Badoni’s progress. His inclusion in the squad reflects the BCCI’s policy of providing opportunities to emerging players. This call-up is a testament to his hard work and dedication.

The ODI series between India and South Africa is scheduled to begin on December 17th. The matches will be played in Johannesburg (December 17th), Gqeberha (December 19th), and Paarl (December 21st). The Indian team will be looking to continue their strong form in ODI cricket, and Badoni’s inclusion adds an exciting element to the squad.

Fans and cricket experts are eagerly anticipating Badoni’s debut. His ability to adapt to different situations and his fearless approach to batting could prove to be valuable assets for the Indian team. The series against South Africa will be a crucial test for the young batsman as he aims to establish himself as a regular member of the Indian ODI squad.

The BCCI has confirmed that the team management will assess Badoni’s readiness and role in the playing XI during the practice sessions leading up to the first ODI. The focus will be on integrating him seamlessly into the team environment and maximizing his potential.
