War 2 Movie Review & Box Office: Hrithik Roshan – Jr NTR Action Spectacle Opens to Mixed Response

The highly anticipated War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji, has finally hit theatres. Starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani, the film is the sixth entry in YRF’s Spy Universe and a direct sequel to War (2019). Despite heavy competition from Rajinikanth’s Coolie, War 2 opened with strong hype, grossing ₹6 crore by 8 AM and ₹20.57 crore in advance bookings for Day 1.

This film also marks Jr NTR’s Hindi cinema debut, making it a landmark release for Telugu fans across India. His supporters have celebrated in typical South Indian star fashion, with firecrackers, cutouts, and even a fan applying a blood tilak to his poster.

Plot & Performances

While the storyline remains under wraps, early reviews suggest that War 2 picks up after the events of Tiger 3. Critics and fans have praised Jr NTR’s “goosebump-inducing” entry and his on-screen chemistry with Hrithik Roshan, especially in the high-energy dance number Janaab-e-Aali.

Hrithik Roshan delivers his trademark charisma in both intense action sequences and suave spy moments. Kiara Advani, in her first film after motherhood, makes headlines with a beach sequence styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania, while also holding her own in the action-heavy plot.

Fan & Critical Reactions

  • Many fans have called the first half “mind-boggling” and among the best in recent Indian action cinema.
  • Others found the storyline predictable, saying it leans too heavily on style over substance.
  • The climax and face-off scenes between Hrithik and Jr NTR are widely regarded as the highlights.
  • Some viewers have pointed out shoddy VFX in places, though still an improvement over Tiger 3.

Spy Universe & Future Teases

True to YRF’s Spy Universe formula, War 2 includes two post-credit scenes, reportedly teasing the next installment, Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, set for a Christmas 2025 release.

Box Office Outlook

With a powerful star cast, big-budget action, and cross-industry appeal, War 2 has the potential to grow over the weekend. However, facing Coolie’s dominance and mixed critical reviews, sustaining momentum will be the real challenge.
