The much-anticipated spy-action thriller War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani, has made a thunderous start at the domestic box office. Early estimates peg its Day 1 net collection at ₹52.50 crore, closing in on Rajinikanth’s Coolie in the race for the top spot.
A Surprise Opening Above Predictions
Before its release, advance booking trends hinted at a modest start, with trade experts predicting around ₹43 crore — potentially the lowest opening in YRF’s Spy Universe. However, War 2 outperformed expectations, thanks to its bilingual appeal and star power.
- Hindi version: ₹29 crore net on Day 1
- Telugu version: ₹23.25 crore net, boosted by Jr NTR’s massive fanbase
- Tamil version: ₹25 lakh net
While the Hindi collections are solid, they still mark the lowest Hindi opener in the Spy Universe — behind films like Ek Tha Tiger (₹32.93 crore in 2012) and Pathaan (₹55 crore in 2023).
Regional Dominance by Jr NTR
The Telugu version’s strong performance was the real game changer, thanks to Jr NTR’s unparalleled popularity. Fan clubs across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana celebrated his role, praising his action sequences, dance moves, and patriotism-driven character.
Vijayawada NTR Fans District Association president Kavuri Krishna called War 2 a landmark in NTR’s career, while other fans described the film as a Bollywood takeover by the RRR star.
Occupancy & Audience Reception
- Hindi shows occupancy: 29.24%
- Tamil shows occupancy: 42.41%
Critics and audiences alike have praised the film’s high-octane action and performances, though some noted that pacing could have been tighter.
Day 1 Gross & Competition
Industry estimates suggest War 2’s total India gross for Day 1 could exceed ₹60 crore, with early gross figures already touching ₹65 crore across all languages. Combined with Coolie, the two films have reportedly pulled in an impressive ₹117.50 crore on opening day.
However, competition from Rajinikanth’s Coolie in the South and mixed reviews might test its weekday hold. With the Independence Day holiday and a strong weekend ahead, War 2 still has room to grow — especially in the Hindi belt.
