Advance booking for War 2 finally kicked off in India on Sunday, and fans wasted no time securing their seats. Within the first day, the Hrithik Roshan–Jr NTR starrer raked in over ₹2.24 crore in pre-sales, according to Sacnilk.com, despite limited Telugu screenings.
The highly anticipated action thriller, directed by Ayan Mukherji, is slated for release on Thursday, August 14, in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil.
Opening Day Booking Figures
- ₹2.24 crore collected by 9 PM on Sunday.
- Around 9,000 shows in Hindi (including 2D, IMAX, DOLBY, 4DX formats).
- 100 shows for Tamil and 115 shows for Telugu.
- Telugu screenings lower than expected, even with Jr NTR in the cast.
Interestingly, with block seats (reserved by theatres for spot booking or promotions) included, the total would be closer to ₹7.6 crore.
Clash with Rajinikanth’s Coolie
War 2 won’t have theatres all to itself. It faces a direct box office battle with Rajinikanth’s Coolie, which also hits screens on the same day — a factor that could influence collections in South India.
International Advance Booking
While Indian pre-sales look promising, overseas response has been lukewarm. In the US, YRF is releasing the Hindi version across 900 screens for paid previews, but as of Sunday morning, only around 1,600 tickets had been sold, leaving many auditoriums with empty seats.
Interestingly, the Telugu version has shown better momentum in the US than Hindi for Wednesday premieres.
About War 2
The film marks the return of Hrithik Roshan as rogue R&AW agent Kabir. This time, he faces a formidable new villain played by Jr NTR, with Kiara Advani joining the cast as the new female lead.
On working with Jr NTR, Hrithik shared:
“I see a lot of myself in Tarak. We’ve had very similar journeys for 25 years. On set, I have learnt how to give 100% to a shot — not 99.99%. Tarak, thank you for teaching me that.”
War 2 is the latest addition to the YRF Spy Universe, which also includes the Tiger series, Pathaan, and the upcoming Alpha starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari.
