US Open 2025: Novak Djokovic Defeats Taylor Fritz to Enter Semifinals, Sets New Record

Novak Djokovic continued his dominance at the Grand Slams by defeating fourth seed Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals of the US Open 2025. The 23-time major champion sealed the match 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 to book his place in the semifinals at Flushing Meadows.

Match Highlights

  • Djokovic extended his unbeaten head-to-head record against Fritz to 11-0.
  • The victory marked his 53rd Grand Slam semifinal, the most by any player in the Open Era.
  • It was also his 14th US Open semifinal, equalling Jimmy Connors’ record.

Fritz, who finished runner-up in 2024, put up a strong fight but faltered at crucial points, including a double fault in the final game that handed Djokovic the win.

Djokovic’s Reaction

Speaking after the match, Djokovic admitted the contest was closer than the scoreline suggested:

“It was really anybody’s match. I was lucky to save some break points in the second set. Taylor played better for much of the second and third sets. That last game was nerve-wracking—he didn’t deserve to finish with a double fault.”

Next Challenge: Alcaraz Showdown

Djokovic will next face Carlos Alcaraz, who advanced after defeating Jiri Lehecka in straight sets (6-4, 6-2, 6-4). The semifinal clash will be their ninth meeting, with Djokovic leading the head-to-head 5-3, including recent wins at the Australian Open 2025 quarterfinals and the Paris Olympics final.

Remaining Quarterfinals

The last two men’s quarterfinals will see Alex de Minaur take on Felix Auger-Aliassime, while defending champion Jannik Sinner faces Lorenzo Musetti in an all-Italian encounter under the lights.

With Djokovic’s form and experience, his path to a potential 24th Grand Slam remains firmly on course.
