Mumbai – Television actor Priya Marathe, known for her roles in Pavitra Rishta and Kasamh Se, passed away on Sunday at the age of 38 after a prolonged battle with cancer. Her death has left the television industry in shock, with co-stars and family members remembering her as a talented actress and a courageous fighter.
Brother Subodh Bhave Remembers His “Fighter Sister”
Actor Subodh Bhave, Marathe’s cousin, shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram. “Priya was not just a great actress but my beloved sister. The hard work she put into her career, her faith in work, and the way she played every role with dedication was commendable. She was a fighter, but finally her strength fell short. I pray that she finds peace wherever she is. Om Shanti,” he wrote.
He recalled how, despite being diagnosed with cancer years ago, Marathe returned to acting, continuing to perform in dramas and serials with grace.
Co-Stars Share Their Memories
Veteran actor Usha Nadkarni, who worked with Marathe in Pavitra Rishta, expressed sorrow at her untimely passing. “I don’t understand why God does such things. Was this really the age for her to go? She was such a calm, good-natured girl. It’s very sad what happened to her,” Nadkarni told Mid-Day.
Actor Anurag Sharma, who played her on-screen husband in Pavitra Rishta, said the news came as a shock. “She was such a nice girl, a very good actress, and a kind human being. Life is unpredictable, and her loss has deeply shaken us all,” he said.
Swati Anand, who played Marathe’s mother in Kasamh Se, remembered her as a determined artist. “She never lost her courage. She once told me, ‘Swati Di, I will fight this battle with all my strength.’ Today’s news feels beyond comprehension. I only pray her soul rests in peace,” Anand said.
A Career Spanning Hindi and Marathi Television
Priya Marathe began her acting journey with the Marathi show Ya Sukhano Ya in 2005 before moving to Hindi television. She gained widespread recognition as Varsha in Pavitra Rishta, a role that made her a household name. Over the years, she appeared in popular shows such as Kasamh Se, Bade Acche Lagte Hain, Saath Nibhana Saathiya, Uttaran, and Maharana Pratap. She also acted in Marathi films, including Umne Jeena Seekh Liya and Ti Ani Itar.
Marathe had reportedly been battling cancer for more than two years. She passed away at her residence in Mira Road at 4 am on Sunday. She is survived by her husband, actor Shantanu Moghe.
