Trump Threatens to Send Troops to Baltimore After Clash With Governor Wes Moore

Washington: US President Donald Trump has warned that he could deploy federal troops to Baltimore, adding Maryland’s largest city to his growing list of Democrat-led cities he claims are failing to control crime. The warning came after Maryland Governor Wes Moore invited Trump to tour Baltimore and discuss public safety.

Trump, already facing criticism for deploying thousands of National Guard and federal officers in Washington, DC, has repeatedly threatened similar actions in New York and Chicago.

Trump’s Response to Moore

In a post on Truth Social, Trump called Moore’s invitation “nasty and provocative” and blasted his crime record. “Wes Moore’s record on crime is a very bad one, unless he fudges his figures like many other Blue States are doing. But if Wes Moore needs help, like Gavin Newscum did in LA, I will send in the troops, which is being done in nearby DC, and quickly clean up the crime,” Trump wrote.

The president previously ordered deployments in Los Angeles and Washington, DC, despite objections from Democratic leaders. He even raised concerns about safety in the US capital during a White House meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky last week.

Baltimore Crime Data

Trump’s criticism, however, appears to clash with official statistics. According to city data, Baltimore recorded 200 homicides last year—a 24% drop from the year before and 42% lower than in 2021. Between 2023 and 2024, violent crime fell nearly 8%, while property crimes dropped by 20%, the Associated Press reported.

Governor Moore highlighted these improvements in a Sunday interview on CBS’s Face the Nation. “The president is spending all of his time talking about me. I’m spending my time talking about the people I serve,” he said, adding that Trump seems to live in “blissful ignorance” of Baltimore’s progress.

Protests in Washington

Meanwhile, in Washington, DC, where Trump has already stationed National Guard and federal officers, protests have continued across the city. Some busy areas appeared unusually quiet, while videos of arrests and detentions circulated online.

Reports suggest that the Pentagon has been preparing for possible troop deployments in Chicago, with New York also on Trump’s radar. The threats have prompted strong resistance from Democratic leaders, who argue that the president is overstepping federal authority.
