Trump Nominates Sergio Gor as U.S. Ambassador to India

President Donald Trump has nominated his longtime associate, Sergio Gor, as the next U.S. Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs. Gor, currently serving as the White House Personnel Director, expressed his gratitude for the nomination in a post on X, calling it “the honor of my life.”

Gor, 38, thanked Trump for the trust he had shown in selecting him for the role, emphasizing his pride in serving the American people. He also highlighted the historic achievements of Trump’s administration in making America stronger.

Born in Uzbekistan before its independence from the Soviet Union, Gor moved to Malta as a child and later pursued his university studies in the U.S. He became involved in Republican Party politics early on, working with Senator Rand Paul and later as a fundraiser and publisher for Trump. Interestingly, Gor also dabbled in wedding DJing before making his mark in politics.

Trump praised Gor’s years of loyalty and hard work, pointing to his instrumental role in filling key positions in the federal government, hiring nearly 4,000 staff members. Trump described Gor as an “incredible ambassador” who would help advance his agenda in India, a nation crucial to U.S. foreign policy, especially in a region with over 1.5 billion people.

Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio also endorsed Gor’s nomination, with Vance calling him a “great guy” and Rubio noting that he would be an excellent representative of the U.S. in India.

This nomination comes at a time when tensions have risen between the U.S. and India, particularly with Trump imposing a 50% tariff on imports from India, including a 25% penalty on Indian purchases of Russian oil.

The confirmation of Sergio Gor to this critical diplomatic position is expected to influence future U.S.-India relations significantly.
