Tourist Bus Crash in New York Claims 5 Lives, Injures Several

A tragic bus crash occurred on a New York state highway on Friday, claiming the lives of five passengers. The bus, which was carrying tourists returning to New York City from Niagara Falls, crashed approximately 25 miles east of Buffalo. The passengers aboard were of Indian, Chinese, and Filipino origin, authorities reported.

New York State Police Commander Major Andre Ray stated that the bus driver became distracted, lost control of the vehicle, over-corrected, and ultimately veered off the road, causing the crash. The crash resulted in the deaths of five passengers, but fortunately, no other passengers were in life-threatening condition. Several others received medical treatment at the scene and were later released.

A total of 54 people were on board the bus, with no children among the casualties. The bus had been on its way back to New York City after a day trip to Niagara Falls, located on the U.S.-Canada border, when the accident occurred on a highway near Pembroke.

No Mechanical Error or Intoxication Involved

Authorities ruled out mechanical failure and intoxication as factors contributing to the crash. The driver survived the accident and is cooperating with investigators. “We believe we have a good idea of what happened, and we are thoroughly vetting all the details,” a police spokesperson confirmed.

To assist in communication, translators were dispatched to the scene, and eight helicopters were involved in the rescue efforts. The Mercy Flight air ambulance service was part of the operation, providing crucial support.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul expressed her condolences and stated that her team was coordinating with state police and local officials to ensure the safety and well-being of those involved.

Calls for Blood Donations and Support

In the aftermath of the crash, the blood and organ donor network, Connect Life, issued an urgent call for blood donations. U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer expressed his heartbreak over the incident, offering his thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families.

Niagara Falls, a popular tourist destination, continues to be a major draw for visitors from around the world, making this tragedy all the more poignant for those impacted.
