Telangana Floods: Heavy Rains Disrupt Road and Rail Traffic, 504 Rescued

Hyderabad, August 28, 2025 – Continuous heavy rainfall in Telangana’s Kamareddy and Medak districts triggered flash floods on Wednesday, leaving towns and villages inundated and disrupting both road and rail connectivity.

Overflowing streams, lakes and reservoirs submerged highways, railway tracks and residential areas, forcing many people to take shelter on rooftops.

Flood Situation and Rescue Operations

Pocharam reservoir in Nagireddypet mandal overflowed by nearly eight feet after massive inflows from upstream, inundating the Medak–Yellareddy highway and halting traffic. Floodwater also flowed over National Highway 44 at Narsingi, stranding hundreds of vehicles.

Rail traffic between Hyderabad and Nizamabad was suspended after water submerged tracks on the Bhiknur–Talmadla and Akanpet–Medak sections. Several trains were cancelled, diverted or partially cancelled, according to South Central Railway.

In Rajanna Sircilla district, a farmer went missing while five others, who had gone to graze cattle, were stranded in Upper Maneru. Food packets were delivered to them using drones, while State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams intensified rescue efforts.

Authorities reported that 504 people were rescued in flood-hit areas of Kamareddy and Medak, including nine who were stranded on a tanker in Yellareddy mandal.

Casualties and Damage

A physician, identified as Vinay, died in a wall collapse in Kamareddy district. In Medak, a car was swept away in the Nakkavagu stream, though the driver was rescued by SDRF personnel.

Floodwater also entered parts of Kamareddy town, damaging houses and washing away vehicles. Crops across large areas were submerged as Pedda Cheruvu lake in Bibipet overflowed.
