Supreme Court Seeks Law Clerk & Research Associate Applications for 2026-27

The Supreme Court of India has announced an opportunity for law graduates and researchers, inviting applications for the positions of Law Clerk-cum-Research Associates for the 2026-27 term. The announcement, made via a notification, details the eligibility criteria, application process, and important deadlines for aspiring legal professionals.

The positions are designed to provide young lawyers and researchers with invaluable experience in the apex court, assisting judges with legal research, case analysis, and drafting of judgments. This is a highly competitive program, considered a prestigious stepping stone for a career in law.

Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized university. A minimum of 60% marks in aggregate is required for candidates from the General/OBC categories, while 50% is stipulated for those belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST). Candidates who have already completed their Master’s degree in Law (LLM) are also eligible to apply. Crucially, applicants must not be more than 30 years of age as of the closing date of the application.

Application Process: Interested candidates are required to submit their applications online through the official website of the Supreme Court of India. The application process involves filling out a detailed form, uploading scanned copies of relevant documents (including mark sheets, degree certificates, and a no-objection certificate from their employer, if applicable), and paying a non-refundable application fee. The fee structure varies depending on the category of the applicant.

Selection Procedure: The selection process will be conducted in multiple stages. Initially, applications will be screened based on academic merit and fulfillment of the eligibility criteria. Shortlisted candidates will then be required to appear for a written examination, designed to assess their legal knowledge, research skills, and analytical abilities. Successful candidates from the written exam will be called for an interview, where they will be evaluated on their overall suitability for the position.

The last date for submitting online applications is February 17, 2024. Stipend and Benefits: Selected Law Clerk-cum-Research Associates will receive a monthly stipend of ₹70,000.
