Malayalam actor and producer Soubin Shahir has been barred from travelling to Dubai for an award function after the Ernakulam Magistrate Court rejected his plea seeking relaxation of bail conditions. The actor had requested permission to fly on September 5, but the court turned it down in light of the ongoing financial fraud case linked to his film Manjummel Boys.
Background of the case
Soubin, along with his father Babu Shahir and co-producer Shawn Antony, has been under investigation since July following a complaint by businessman Siraj Valiyathura. The complainant alleged he invested ₹7 crore in the film after being promised a 40% profit share, but was not paid.
According to the police report, the producers allegedly conspired to cheat the investor. However, the Manjummel Boys team dismissed the charges, claiming the delays and disputes arose because Siraj failed to provide funds on time, which affected the film’s production schedule.
Soubin was questioned at Maradu police station in July and had submitted documents and his phone to investigators. While initial reports suggested he was arrested, police later clarified he had been granted conditional bail by the Kerala High Court, meaning his arrest was not officially recorded.
