India’s Shubman Gill and England’s Sophia Dunkley have been named the ICC Men’s and Women’s Players of the Month for July 2025. Both players received the prestigious award following an extensive selection process, including votes from an esteemed panel and global fans.
Shubman Gill: A Historic Fourth Win
Shubman Gill made history by becoming the first male player to win the ICC Player of the Month award four times. His remarkable performances during India’s Test series in England played a key role in securing this honor. Gill amassed 567 runs at an impressive average of 94.50 over three Tests in July. His previous wins were in January 2023, September 2023, and February 2025.
The highlight of Gill’s month was his exceptional 430-run tally in the second Test in Birmingham, which included scores of 269 and 161. This performance helped level the series 1-1. He also contributed a vital 103 in the second innings of the fourth Test in Manchester, ensuring the series stayed alive with a draw.
Commenting on his win, Gill shared, “It feels great to be named ICC Player of the Month for July, especially for my performances as captain in my first Test series. The double ton in Birmingham is something I will cherish forever.”
He added, “The series against England was a learning experience for me as captain, and we had some outstanding performances from both sides. I look forward to continuing my form and bringing more success for the country.”
Sophia Dunkley: A Standout Performer for England
In the Women’s category, England’s Sophia Dunkley edged out teammates Sophie Ecclestone and Ireland’s Gaby Lewis to claim the award. Dunkley had a standout month across both ODIs and T20Is, scoring a total of 126 runs in three ODIs and 144 runs at a striking 134.57 in four T20Is during England’s series against India.
