Revanth Reddy Issues Heavy Rain Alert, Urges Preparedness in Telangana

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has issued a high alert for the state, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 72 hours. The forecast predicts intense rain for Hyderabad and surrounding areas, prompting the government to prepare for potential flooding and other weather-related impacts.

In response to the weather advisory, the education department has announced half-day holidays for schools in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday, a public holiday, will further ease the situation.

To reduce traffic congestion and protect commuters, Revanth Reddy has urged IT companies to allow employees to work from home for the next three days. The move is aimed at minimizing the number of people on the roads during the expected downpours.

The Hyderabad Rain and Flood Alert Authority (HYDRAA) has issued a warning to the public to limit travel during the heavy rain and to avoid waterlogged areas or flooded roads.

Meanwhile, Telangana’s Irrigation Minister, N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, has directed irrigation officials to stay on high alert, closely monitoring reservoirs, ponds, and other water bodies to prevent overflows. He emphasized regular checks on water levels and dam gates and assured that the Disaster Management Department is coordinating efforts to keep residents in low-lying areas informed.

Residents are being advised to stay indoors during the worst of the downpours unless absolutely necessary. Precautionary measures have been set up for those in flood-prone areas, and toll-free numbers have been made available to report rain-related incidents.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Hyderabad, warning of heavy rainfall, thunder, and the possibility of flash floods. The northern and western parts of the city, including Medchal district and Cyberabad, are expected to be most affected.
