Rahul Gandhi Alleges Major Election Fraud, Targets Election Commission

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has launched a blistering attack on the Election Commission of India (ECI), alleging large-scale rigging in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and calling the electoral system “dead.” Speaking at a legal conference in New Delhi on Saturday, Gandhi claimed at least 15 parliamentary seats were manipulated—enough, he said, to alter the final outcome of the election.

“The Prime Minister has a very slim majority. If those 15 seats weren’t rigged, he wouldn’t be in power,” Gandhi said, suggesting that voter fraud played a decisive role in the BJP-led government’s return to office.

Holding up a copy of the Constitution, Gandhi accused the Election Commission of having been “obliterated and taken over.” He said his team has spent six months gathering evidence and promised to release data that would “shock the electoral system.”

According to Gandhi, the evidence includes manipulated voter rolls and fake entries. “In one case, out of 6.5 lakh voters, 1.5 lakh were fake,” he alleged. He claimed the data would show how the entire system was compromised: “It is literally like an atom bomb,” he remarked.

Gandhi also revisited past elections, saying he had long harbored doubts about the integrity of results dating back to 2014. He pointed to discrepancies between Lok Sabha and assembly election outcomes in Maharashtra, where he said over one crore new voters were added between the two polls—most of whom, he claimed, voted for the BJP.

On Friday, Gandhi had also issued a warning to current and former officials within the Election Commission, accusing them of “treason” and promising action against those involved. “Wherever you are, even if retired, we will find you,” he said.

The Election Commission responded to the allegations, urging officials to continue working “fairly and transparently” and dismissing Gandhi’s accusations as “baseless.” The ECI said it would not be distracted by threats or rhetoric.

Gandhi, who currently serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has said he will soon make the evidence public. His claims, if substantiated, could intensify scrutiny on India’s electoral process and further polarize the national political landscape.
