The end of one journey often marks the beginning of another, and that may be the case for legendary Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. On Wednesday, the veteran off-spinner announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL) after a remarkable 16-season career, closing the chapter with his home team Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Ashwin, who began his IPL career with CSK and returned to finish it there, thanked the BCCI and the league for “wonderful memories and relationships” built over the years.
Wife’s Heartfelt Hint
While fans bid farewell to Ashwin’s IPL journey, his wife Prithi Narayanan hinted at what lies ahead. In a heartfelt Instagram post, she wrote: “I love you! @rashwin99 Can’t wait to see you do new things and scale new heights.” The message sparked speculation that the iconic spinner may soon embrace new cricketing ventures.
Eyeing Global Leagues
Reports suggest Ashwin is “keen” to become the first Indian men’s player to feature in The Hundred, England’s 100-ball cricket competition. His retirement from the IPL now allows him to participate in overseas leagues, as BCCI rules prevent active Indian men’s players from joining foreign T20 tournaments.
According to The Telegraph, Ashwin is also open to exploring other leagues worldwide, with The Hundred likely at the top of his list.
With his IPL career complete, the “scientist of spin” seems ready to script a fresh chapter on international grounds, delighting fans who may see him in new colors soon.
