Poco has expanded its smartphone lineup with the announcement of two new devices: the Poco M8 Pro 5G and the Poco M8 5G. Both phones are targeted at the budget-conscious consumer and offer 5G connectivity. The devices were initially revealed through an India-specific listing, suggesting a primary focus on the Indian market, though wider availability remains a possibility.
Poco M8 Pro 5G: Key Specifications
The Poco M8 Pro 5G is the higher-end of the two, featuring a MediaTek Dimensity 8100 chipset. This processor provides a significant performance boost compared to other options in this price bracket. It boasts a 6.79-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, offering vibrant visuals and a smooth user experience. The phone is equipped with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Its camera system is headlined by a 50MP main sensor, complemented by an 8MP ultrawide lens and a 2MP macro lens. A 16MP front-facing camera handles selfie duties. Powering the device is a 5,000mAh battery with support for 67W fast charging. The M8 Pro 5G comes in colors including Cosmic Black and Galaxy Blue.
Poco M8 5G: A More Accessible Option
The standard Poco M8 5G positions itself as a more affordable 5G option. It’s powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ processor, paired with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage. It also sports a 6.79-inch AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, slightly less fluid than the Pro model. The camera setup includes a 50MP main sensor, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 2MP macro lens, similar to the Pro. The front camera is a 13MP sensor. Like the Pro version, it features a 5,000mAh battery, but charges at a slower 33W speed. Available colors include Stardust Black and Emerald Green.
Both devices run on Poco’s MIUI-based operating system. While specific software features weren’t immediately detailed, users can expect a feature-rich experience with potential customization options.
Pricing for the Poco M8 Pro 5G starts at approximately $268 for the 8GB/128GB variant, moving up to $304 for the 12GB/256GB configuration. The Poco M8 5G is even more affordable, beginning around $200 for the 6GB/128GB model and $234 for the 8GB/128GB variant. These prices are based on the Indian market and may vary in other regions.
Poco’s latest releases aim to disrupt the mid-range and budget smartphone segments, providing competitive specifications at attractive price points. The focus on 5G connectivity reflects the growing demand for faster mobile data speeds, and the inclusion of AMOLED displays elevates the viewing experience for both the Pro and standard models. The company is hoping to gain market share with these aggressively priced devices.
