PM’s 79th Independence Day Address: Roadmap to Viksit Bharat 2047

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his 79th Independence Day speech from the Red Fort, delivered a 103-minute address outlining a bold vision for a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047. His longest Independence Day address yet, the speech focused on self-reliance, innovation, youth empowerment, and economic reforms to transform India into a globally confident and resilient nation.


Key Highlights from PM Modi’s Address

1. No Compromise on National Security
PM Modi praised Operation Sindoor—conducted after the Pahalgam terror attack—carried out entirely with indigenous defence technology. He declared that India would no longer bow to nuclear blackmail or external pressure. On the Indus Waters Treaty, he said, “Blood and water will not flow together”, signalling a firm stance on national interests.

2. Atmanirbhar Bharat and Technology Push
The PM stressed that true independence lies in self-reliance. Major announcements included:

  • India’s first semiconductor chip by 2025.
  • Opening the nuclear sector to private players.
  • Launch of the National Critical Minerals Mission to secure resources vital for defence, energy, and industry.
  • The National Deepwater Exploration Mission to boost offshore energy self-sufficiency.

3. Pharma and Healthcare Leadership
Calling India the “pharmacy of the world,” Modi urged researchers and entrepreneurs to innovate and patent medicines and vaccines domestically, ensuring India becomes a global hub for affordable healthcare solutions.

4. Mission Sudarshan Chakra for Defence
The PM announced Mission Sudarshan Chakra, a new weapon system to strengthen India’s deterrence capabilities, along with a nationwide security shield covering all public places by 2035.

5. Next-Generation Economic Reforms
A new Task Force for Economic Reforms will simplify laws and compliance. Over 40,000 compliances and 1,500 outdated laws have already been scrapped. Modi also promised Next-Gen GST reforms by Diwali, reducing taxes on essentials to support MSMEs, vendors, and consumers.

6. PM Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana
A ₹1 lakh crore employment scheme was launched to provide ₹15,000 to newly employed youth, targeting 3 crore young Indians and turning the demographic dividend into a growth engine.

7. Energy and Nuclear Self-Reliance
India will boost clean and nuclear energy:

  • Nuclear capacity to increase tenfold by 2047 with 10 new reactors.
  • Offshore exploration and renewable energy targets are being met ahead of schedule.
  • Savings from reduced energy imports, Modi said, could be redirected to benefit farmers.

8. Space and Innovation Drive
Preparations are underway for India’s own space station, building on the success of the Gaganyaan mission. Over 300 startups are working in satellite technology and space research.

9. Farmers First
The PM reiterated his commitment to farmers, highlighting record agricultural exports of ₹4 lakh crore. He launched the PM Dhanya Dhanya Krishi Yojana to support 100 backward farming districts.

10. High-Powered Demography Mission
Modi announced measures to safeguard India’s demographic integrity against illegal infiltration, ensuring unity, security, and prosperity.
