Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate two major infrastructure projects in Delhi-NCR on Sunday — the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II). Together worth nearly ₹11,000 crore, these projects are expected to ease congestion, improve connectivity, and cut travel time across the capital region.
10 Things to Know
- Two Major Stretches – The launch includes the 10.1 km Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Alipur–Dichaon Kalan stretch of UER-II, with connections to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat.
- Project Cost – The total investment is ₹10,940 crore, split as ₹5,360 crore for the Dwarka Expressway’s Delhi section and ₹5,580 crore for UER-II.
- Dwarka Expressway Packages –
- Package I: 5.9 km from Shiv Murti intersection to Dwarka Sector-21 RUB.
- Package II: 4.2 km from Dwarka Sector-21 RUB to the Delhi–Haryana border.
- Part of a Larger Corridor – This section complements the 19-km Haryana stretch, inaugurated in March 2024.
- Multi-Modal Connectivity – The expressway links Yashobhoomi Convention Centre, Delhi Metro’s Blue and Orange lines, the upcoming Bijwasan railway station, and the Dwarka bus depot.
- UER-II Alignment – Runs from NH-44 (Alipur) to NH-48 (Mahipalpur) via Mundka, Bakkarwala, Najafgarh and Dwarka, with spurs to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat.
- Relief for Commuters – Expected to reduce pressure on Inner Ring Road, Outer Ring Road, Mukarba Chowk, Madhuban Chowk, Peeragarhi Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, and NH-9.
- Travel Time Savings – The Singhu border to IGI Airport journey will drop from nearly two hours to just 40 minutes. North–South Delhi travel will also become faster.
- Environmental Benefits – Shorter trips and reduced congestion will cut fuel consumption and emissions, contributing to Delhi’s fight against air pollution.
