Bhojpuri actor and singer Pawan Singh has apologised to actress Anjali Raghav after she announced her decision to quit the Bhojpuri film industry, accusing him of touching her without consent during a recent public event.
The Incident
At an event in Lucknow, Pawan Singh was seen repeatedly touching Anjali Raghav’s waist on stage, claiming something was stuck on it. Videos from the programme showed Anjali visibly uncomfortable, but Pawan continued despite her reactions. The incident triggered outrage online and ultimately led Anjali to declare her exit from the Bhojpuri industry.
Pawan Singh’s Apology
Following the backlash, Pawan Singh issued an apology through his Instagram Stories. Writing in Hindi, he said he had no “wrong intention” and regretted that Anjali was hurt by his behaviour.
“Anjali ji, due to my busy schedule, I couldn’t watch your live. When I came to know about the matter, I felt very bad. I had no wrong intention towards you as we are artists. Even then, if you were hurt by my behaviour, I apologise,” his note read.
Industry Reaction
The incident has sparked discussions around consent and professionalism in the Bhojpuri entertainment industry. While Pawan Singh’s apology has been noted, Anjali’s decision to step away has highlighted the challenges female artists continue to face in regional cinema.
