Singer Palaash Muchhal, known for his philanthropic work through the People’s Foundation, is facing serious allegations of cheating a Maharashtra-based man out of ₹40 lakh (approximately $48,000 USD). A formal complaint has been filed against Muchhal and his sister, Palak Muchhal, along with other individuals associated with the foundation, alleging a fraudulent scheme related to medical assistance.
The complainant, identified as Amarjeet Singh, claims he donated the substantial sum to the People’s Foundation with the understanding that it would be used to fund the medical treatment of a young girl suffering from a critical illness. Singh alleges that despite repeated assurances and promises, the funds were not utilized for the stated purpose and were instead misappropriated.
According to the police report, Singh initially contacted the People’s Foundation in 2022 after seeing a social media appeal for donations for the girl’s treatment. He was reportedly convinced by the foundation’s representatives, including Palaash Muchhal, of their genuine commitment to helping those in need. Singh subsequently transferred ₹40 lakh to the foundation’s account.
Allegations of Misappropriation
However, Singh grew suspicious when he didn’t receive regular updates on the girl’s condition or any concrete evidence demonstrating how his donation was being used. His attempts to seek clarification from the foundation were allegedly met with evasive responses and delays. After persistent efforts, Singh filed a complaint with the police, outlining the details of the alleged fraud.
The police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Palaash Muchhal, Palak Muchhal, and several others, invoking sections of the Indian Penal Code related to cheating, criminal conspiracy, and breach of trust. Investigations are currently underway to verify the allegations and ascertain the extent of the financial irregularities.
The People’s Foundation has been actively involved in providing financial aid for the medical treatment of underprivileged children with heart diseases. The foundation often collaborates with hospitals and organizes fundraising events to support its initiatives. The current allegations have cast a shadow over the organization’s reputation and raised questions about its financial transparency.
While Palak Muchhal is a prominent singer in her own right, Palaash Muchhal is primarily known for his fundraising efforts and holds a key position within the People’s Foundation.
