OpenAI has unveiled its most advanced AI model, GPT-5, promising major improvements in accuracy, speed, reasoning, and math capabilities. During the launch event, CEO Sam Altman highlighted India as one of the company’s fastest-growing markets, potentially surpassing the US. He praised the speed at which businesses and individuals in India are adopting AI technology, calling it “remarkable.”
“India is our second-largest market in the world after the US, and it may well become our largest market,” Altman said. He also emphasized the company’s commitment to collaborating with local partners to improve AI access and affordability in India, with plans to visit the country in September.
GPT-5 is available in multiple versions, including a free version and enhanced tiers for Team, Enterprise, Edu, and Pro users. The model comes in three sizes—gpt-5, gpt-5-mini, and gpt-5-nano—giving developers flexibility in performance, cost, and speed. GPT-5 is designed to excel in tasks requiring advanced reasoning, making it OpenAI’s “best model yet” for coding and complex agentic tasks.
Altman also noted that GPT-5 represents a significant step toward Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), saying, “GPT-5 is really the first time that I think one of our mainline models has felt like you can ask a legitimate expert, like a PhD-level expert, anything.”
For users, GPT-5 is available in the OpenAI API, with access already granted to ChatGPT Team customers. It will be rolled out for Enterprise and Edu users next week. Pro users ($200/month) will get unlimited access to GPT-5, along with enhanced performance and extended reasoning capabilities.
