OpenAI has introduced a new subscription tier called ChatGPT Go, designed exclusively for users in India. Priced at ₹399 per month, it is the company’s most affordable plan so far, aimed at making advanced AI tools accessible to a wider audience.
Key Benefits of ChatGPT Go
- Access to GPT-5: Extended use of OpenAI’s latest flagship model.
- Higher usage limits: More daily messages, image generations, and file uploads compared to the free tier.
- Expanded memory: Conversations retain more context than in the free version.
- Data tools: Broader access to Python-based advanced data analysis.
- Cross-platform use: Available on the web, ChatGPT mobile apps, and via WhatsApp at 1-800-ChatGPT.
What’s Not Included
The Go plan is positioned below the Plus (₹1,999/month) and Pro (₹19,900/month) tiers. Unlike them, it does not provide access to:
- Legacy models such as GPT-4o.
- Advanced features like connectors, deep research, or Sora video generation.
- API usage (billed separately).
Availability and Access
The rollout is being done in phases across India. Users can check eligibility by logging into ChatGPT, selecting their profile, and navigating to “Upgrade Plan” → “Try Go.”
Payment Options
For the first time, OpenAI has enabled local payments via UPI, along with credit card billing in Indian rupees. Subscriptions renew monthly and can be cancelled anytime.
Why It Matters
The launch comes shortly after OpenAI revised its India pricing. With Plus at ₹1,999 and Pro at ₹19,900, the Go plan offers an affordable entry point for individuals who want more flexibility than the free tier without committing to premium pricing.
OpenAI says it will evaluate feedback from Indian users before deciding on an international rollout of Go.
