Mukesh Khanna Backs Shah Rukh Khan Amid National Award Criticism

August 6, 2025 — Shah Rukh Khan’s first National Award win has sparked debate, drawing both praise and scrutiny. Actor Mukesh Khanna has stepped in to defend Khan, highlighting his long-standing dedication to the film industry.

The award, given for Khan’s performance in Jawan, received some criticism from actress Urvashi, who questioned the jury’s selection process. Urvashi, who won the Best Supporting Actress award for Ullozhukku, expressed doubts over whether Khan’s recent performance merited the honor, suggesting a South Indian actor may have been more deserving.

Addressing the controversy, Khanna—best known for his role as Shaktimaan—offered perspective during an interview with IANS.

“People are saying Shah Rukh should have received the award for Swades instead of Jawan. But remember, A.R. Rahman won the Oscar for Jai Ho, not for his earlier masterpieces. Shah Rukh has put in 40 years of hard work—there’s nothing wrong with him being honored now,” Khanna stated.

Shah Rukh Khan Responds with Gratitude

In response to the recognition, Khan shared a video message thanking his family, fans, and the industry. He described the award as more than an achievement—calling it a reminder of his duty to the craft of cinema.

“A National Award isn’t just a trophy. It’s a sign that what I do matters,” Khan said. “This recognition motivates me to keep learning, keep working, and continue giving back to cinema.”

He added that for him, acting is not merely a profession, but a responsibility to portray truth on screen.

Shah Rukh Khan’s win comes after decades in the film industry, and while opinions vary, support from industry veterans like Khanna affirms that the recognition reflects more than just one performance—it honors a legacy.
