Mahindra Slashes SUV Prices Following GST Reforms, Savings Up to ₹1.56 Lakh

Mahindra & Mahindra has announced immediate price cuts across its internal combustion engine SUV lineup, passing on the full benefits of revised GST rates to customers. The reductions, effective September 6, range from ₹1.01 lakh to ₹1.56 lakh depending on the model and variant.

GST 2.0 Benefits Passed to Customers

The Mumbai-based automaker confirmed it will transparently update prices across all dealerships and digital platforms following the 56th GST Council meeting held on September 3, 2025. The company emphasized that customers receive the complete advantage of the new tax structure.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman chaired the GST Council meeting that announced the revised tax and cess rates for SUVs.

Model-Wise Price Reductions

Popular SUV Models

The Thar lineup sees substantial savings with the 2WD Diesel variant now ₹1.35 lakh cheaper. Both the Thar 4WD Diesel and Scorpio Classic receive ₹1.01 lakh price cuts.

The Scorpio-N offers savings up to ₹1.45 lakh, while the recently launched Thar Roxx becomes ₹1.33 lakh more affordable.

Utility Vehicle Range

The XUV3XO Diesel leads with the highest reduction of ₹1.56 lakh, while the XUV3XO Petrol variant drops by ₹1.40 lakh. The flagship XUV700 becomes ₹1.43 lakh cheaper.

The Bolero and Bolero Neo see price cuts of up to ₹1.27 lakh, making these entry-level utility vehicles more accessible.

Industry-Wide Impact

Mahindra joins other major automakers in implementing similar price reductions. Tata Motors announced cuts effective September 22, with the Nexon SUV becoming ₹1.55 lakh cheaper and the Tiago hatchback reduced by ₹75,000.

Toyota has also reduced prices on premium models including the Fortuner, Innova Crysta, Hycross, and Vellfire following the GST rate changes.

New GST Structure Details

The revised tax framework creates two primary categories for vehicles. Smaller vehicles with petrol, LPG, or CNG engines below 1,200cc and under 4,000mm length, plus diesel vehicles up to 1,500cc and 4,000mm, now attract 18% GST.

Larger vehicles exceeding these specifications face a 40% tax rate under the new structure.

Market Timing

The GST reforms take effect from September 22, coinciding with Navaratri festivities. This timing could boost automotive sales during the traditional festival season when many Indians make major purchases.

Stock Market Response

Mahindra & Mahindra shares closed at ₹3,561.30 on September 5, gaining ₹79.80 or 2.29%. The positive market response reflects investor confidence in the GST benefits driving demand growth.

Trading volume reached 3.7 million shares with the stock touching a high of ₹3,577.80 during the session.

Dealer and Customer Benefits

The immediate implementation ensures customers can access reduced prices without delays. Transparent pricing updates across all sales channels aim to eliminate confusion and provide clarity for potential buyers.

The substantial savings make premium SUVs more accessible to middle-class consumers, potentially expanding the market base for these vehicles.

Competition and Market Impact

Industry analysts expect the price cuts to stimulate demand in the automotive sector, particularly for SUVs which have been experiencing strong growth. The reductions could intensify competition among manufacturers as they compete for market share.

The move positions Mahindra favorably against competitors, especially in the highly competitive mid-size and compact SUV segments where price sensitivity remains high.
