The 17th season of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) kicked off on August 11, with the legendary Amitabh Bachchan returning as the host. The first contestant on the hot seat was Manavpreet Singh, who made it to the ₹25 Lakh question but chose to walk away after being stumped by the ₹50 Lakh question.
The question that led Manavpreet to quit was: “To which South American author did Rabindranath Tagore dedicate his poetry collection Purabi?” The options were:
- A) Gabriela Mistral
- B) Victoria Ocampo
- C) Maria Luisa Bombal
- D) Teresa de la Parra
Uncertain of the answer, Manavpreet decided to take home ₹25 Lakh rather than risk it. The correct answer? B) Victoria Ocampo.
Tagore first met Ocampo, an Argentine writer, during his trip to South America. Ocampo, who later expressed deep admiration for Tagore, wrote about the emotional bond she shared with him. Tagore wrote letters to her, sharing his experiences, including the time he fell ill and recovered in Argentina. These letters were written just a year before his death in 1941.
For the ₹25 Lakh question, Manavpreet was asked: “In 2025, Vishwanath Karthikey became the youngest Indian to accomplish what feat?” The options were:
- A) Swim the English Channel
- B) Circumnavigate the Globe
- C) Climb the Seven Summits
- D) Reach the North Pole
The correct answer was C) Climb the Seven Summits, a remarkable achievement.
In an official statement ahead of the show, Amitabh Bachchan expressed his gratitude to the audience, saying, “Kaun Banega Crorepati is far more than a game show; it’s a collective journey of hopes and dreams, with millions cheering every contestant in the hot seat. For me, hosting KBC feels like being with my extended family, staying connected to your love and warmth.” He promised to give double the effort in this season as a tribute to the affection the show has received.
