New Delhi, Aug 21 – Kaun Banega Crorepati 17, hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, has found its first crorepati of the season within just two weeks of its premiere. Aditya Kumar from Uttarakhand became the season’s first contestant to win ₹1 crore.
The winning ₹1 crore question was:
“Which of these elements is named after the scientist who isolated Plutonium, the element that was used to make the first atomic bomb?”
Options:
A. Seaborgium
B. Einsteinium
C. Meitnerium
D. Bohrium
Aditya used the 50-50 lifeline before locking in option A — Seaborgium. The answer turned out to be correct, earning him the ₹1 crore prize. A visibly emotional Aditya celebrated the moment by touching Bachchan’s feet and embracing his parents on stage.
Seaborgium (Sg) is named after Glenn T. Seaborg, the American chemist who, along with his team, isolated plutonium in the 1940s. Plutonium was later used in the Nagasaki atomic bomb during World War II.
The ₹7 Crore Question
After his historic win, Aditya attempted the jackpot ₹7 crore question:
“Which Japanese artist visited India in the 1930s and painted a celebrated series depicting the Taj Mahal, the Sanchi Stupa, and the Ellora Caves?”
Options:
A. Hiroshima Sugimoto
B. Hiroshi Senju
C. Hiroshi Yoshida
D. Hiroshi Nakajima
Unsure of the answer, Aditya decided to quit the game. Out of curiosity, he guessed option D — which turned out to be wrong. The correct answer was C. Hiroshi Yoshida, a Japanese painter known for his woodblock prints inspired by his travels across India and Southeast Asia in the 1930s.
Aditya Kumar left the show with ₹1 crore, making him the first crorepati of KBC 17, which premiered on August 11 on Sony TV and is also streaming on SonyLIV.
