Washington, August 29, 2025: Amid growing concerns over the health of U.S. President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance reassured the public that Trump is in “good shape” to continue his term in the White House. However, Vance also emphasized that he’s ready to step in as President if any “terrible tragedy” were to occur.
In an interview with USA Today, Vance expressed confidence in Trump’s health, saying, “The president is in incredibly good health…He’s got incredible energy.” The Vice President, 41, added that he believes Trump will be able to serve out the remainder of his term and accomplish significant things for the country.
Vance’s comments came after concerns about Trump’s health were sparked when a large bruise appeared on the president’s hand during a meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung. At 79 years old, Trump is currently the oldest president in U.S. history. Vance, the third-youngest Vice President, brushed off speculation about his 2028 presidential ambitions, but stated he would be prepared to take over if necessary. “If, God forbid, there’s a terrible tragedy, I can’t think of better on-the-job training than what I’ve gotten over the last 200 days,” he said.
Earlier this month, Trump referred to Vance as his “most likely” successor in the MAGA movement, but the Vice President has consistently dismissed any talk of his future presidential plans.
Vance also shared his thoughts on Trump’s “distinctive style” in decorating the White House. He recalled his first walk into the Oval Office, describing it as “amazing” but admitting that it felt a bit “dark and gloomy” due to the closed drapes during the winter months. Vance praised Trump for brightening the space and giving it a more uplifting atmosphere, saying, “I like what the president has done to it.”
