Tehran has delivered a stern warning to former U.S. President Donald Trump, threatening renewed repercussions should he return to office. The warning, issued by Iranian officials and amplified through state media, references the 2020 assassination of Qassem Soleimani, a top Iranian general, and suggests that any future hostile actions by Trump will be met with a forceful response.
The threat materialized in a video clip released by Iran’s Press TV, showcasing simulated missile strikes targeting locations associated with Trump, including his Mar-a-Lago resort. The clip, accompanied by a chilling message – “This time bullet won’t miss target” – is a direct response to Trump’s recent rhetoric, where he has hinted at potential military action against Iran if re-elected. Iranian officials have characterized Trump’s statements as “psychological warfare” and a deliberate attempt to destabilize the region.
Soleimani’s Assassination Remains a Key Grievance
The assassination of Qassem Soleimani in a U.S. drone strike in Iraq in January 2020 remains a deeply sensitive issue in Iran. Soleimani was a highly revered figure, considered a national hero for his role in combating ISIS and expanding Iran’s regional influence. Iran retaliated with missile strikes on U.S. bases in Iraq, bringing the two countries to the brink of war. The current warnings indicate that Iran is prepared to revisit that response, potentially with greater intensity, if provoked.
