India to Roll Out First Made-in-India Semiconductor Chip by Year-End, Says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that India’s first domestically manufactured semiconductor chip will hit the market by the end of 2025. He also revealed that the government is working rapidly to develop a Made-in-India 6G network, underscoring the country’s ambition to stay ahead in next-generation technologies.

Semiconductor Breakthrough

Speaking at the Economic Times World Leaders Forum, Modi said India had missed the semiconductor opportunity decades ago, but the situation has now changed.

“Semiconductor manufacturing could have started in India 50–60 years ago, but we missed that chance. Today, factories are coming up and by the end of this year, the first Made-in-India chip will reach the market,” he said.

Push for 6G Innovation

The Prime Minister also highlighted India’s progress in telecom technology.

“We are working rapidly on Made-in-India 6G,” he said, stressing the need to keep pace with global advancements and ensure technological self-reliance.

Expanding EV Exports

Modi further announced India’s growing footprint in the electric vehicle (EV) sector, stating that the country is preparing to export EVs to 100 nations.

“India is now going to export electric vehicles to 100 countries. A major programme related to this will be held on August 26,” he said.

India’s Economic Momentum

Lauding India’s economic resilience, Modi said the country is playing a central role in driving global growth.

“India, which follows the mantra of Reform, Perform, Transform, is today in a position to help the world overcome slow growth. We are not the people who sit by stagnant waters; we are the ones who can turn fast-flowing streams,” he said.

The announcements come as India accelerates efforts to strengthen its position in semiconductors, telecom, and clean energy, sectors seen as critical to future economic leadership.
