New Delhi – Captain Harmanpreet Singh struck twice as India defeated Japan 3-2 in a thrilling Pool A clash of the men’s Asia Cup on Sunday, securing their second consecutive win in the tournament.

Early Lead for India

India got off to a strong start with Mandeep Singh scoring in the fourth minute, followed quickly by Harmanpreet’s first strike in the fifth. The early double put the hosts in control, but Japan fought back hard.

Japan Pushes Back

Kosei Kawabe pulled one back for Japan in the 38th minute before Harmanpreet restored India’s lead with his second goal in the 46th minute. Kawabe struck again in the dying moments of the 59th minute, setting up a tense finish, but India’s defence held firm.

Back-to-Back Wins

This victory followed India’s 4-3 opening win against China, keeping their unbeaten run intact. With six points from two matches, India now sit in a strong position in Pool A ahead of their final group-stage match against Kazakhstan on Monday.

World Cup Qualification at Stake

The stakes are high as the winner of the Asia Cup earns a direct berth in next year’s Hockey World Cup, to be co-hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands.

India’s Momentum

With Harmanpreet leading from the front and Mandeep Singh providing crucial support, the Indian side has shown attacking sharpness as well as resilience under pressure. The team will look to continue its winning momentum and strengthen its push for a World Cup spot.
