Greater Noida Dowry Murder: Woman Set on Fire for ₹36 Lakh, Son Witnessed the Horror

A shocking dowry murder in Greater Noida has come to light, where a 30-year-old woman was allegedly tortured and set on fire by her husband and mother-in-law over demands for ₹36 lakh. The victim’s young son witnessed the incident and later told relatives, “Papa slapped mumma and then set her on fire with a lighter.”

The Incident

The woman, identified as Nikki, was married to Vipin Bhati for nine years. On Thursday, she was brutally assaulted before being doused with a substance and set ablaze inside her in-laws’ home in Sirsa village, Greater Noida.

A disturbing video showed Nikki, severely burnt, limping down the stairs in agony before collapsing. Another clip captured her husband and mother-in-law dragging her by the hair and thrashing her.

Neighbours rushed her to Fortis Hospital, from where she was referred to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital. Tragically, she died on the way.

Eyewitness Account

Her young son, who saw the entire incident, confirmed his father’s role in the killing. Nikki’s elder sister, Kanchan, who is also married into the same family, alleged that both sisters were constantly harassed for dowry.

“They demanded ₹36 lakh from our parents. When Nikki couldn’t bring the money, they tortured her. I was also beaten that night between 1:30 am and 4 am. They told me, ‘We got dowry for one, what about the other? You’re better off dead,’” Kanchan said, adding that she tried to save her sister but failed.

Police Action

Based on Kanchan’s complaint, police registered a case at Kasna police station against Nikki’s husband Vipin, her brother-in-law Rohit Bhati, mother-in-law Daya, and father-in-law Satveer. Vipin has been arrested, while efforts are on to trace the others.

Public Outcry

The incident has sparked outrage in the area. A large crowd gathered outside Kasna police station demanding justice for Nikki, holding placards that read “Justice for Nikki.”
