Govinda’s lawyer, Lalit Bindra, has denied the ongoing divorce rumours between the actor and his wife, Sunita Ahuja, dismissing them as “old matters.” The clarification came after Sunita made headlines with her comments on the alleged divorce in a recent YouTube vlog. She also revealed unsettling details, such as someone attempting to break into her house.
According to documents accessed by Hauterrfly, Sunita had filed for divorce in the Bandra Family Court on December 5, 2024, citing grounds like adultery, cruelty, and desertion under the Hindu Marriage Act. Govinda was summoned by the court but failed to appear until a notice was issued in May 2025. Since June 2025, the couple has been undergoing court-mandated counselling, though it is unclear if Govinda has attended these sessions virtually.
Responding to these developments, Govinda’s lawyer stated, “Koi case nahi, sab settle ho raha hai. Ye sab log purani cheezen utha ke daal rahe hain” (“There is no case, everything is being settled, people are just bringing up old matters”).
Sources close to the family added, “Abhi Ganesh Chaturthi aayega, aapko sab saath mein nazar aayenge, aap ghar aaiyega” (“This Ganesh Chaturthi, you will see everyone together, you should come home”), indicating that the family plans to celebrate the festival together.
Background on the Rumours
The rumours of a potential divorce between Govinda and Sunita have been circulating for some time. Sunita previously mentioned that she had celebrated her birthday alone for 12 years, citing Govinda’s work and his “talkative nature” as reasons for their living apart. These comments only fueled speculation about the state of their marriage.
The news of the couple possibly parting ways after 38 years of marriage shocked fans, though initially, Sunita’s team denied the rumours. However, in February 2025, Govinda’s team confirmed that Sunita had filed for divorce six months earlier. The actor’s team added that the couple had since resolved their issues, and divorce was no longer being pursued. Sunita also urged the media to refrain from reporting unverified information, saying that either she or Govinda would confirm any updates regarding their marriage.
In the midst of these speculations, there have also been rumours connecting Govinda to a younger Marathi actress, though no official statement has been made regarding these claims.
