Ghaziabad Restaurant Under Scanner After Video Shows Worker ‘Spitting’ on Tandoori Roti

A video allegedly showing a restaurant worker spitting on tandoori rotis before baking them has triggered public outrage and swift police action in Ghaziabad. The incident, which surfaced online earlier this week, has raised serious concerns about hygiene standards at a popular local eatery frequented by hundreds of customers daily.

The video was reportedly recorded on January 2 at a restaurant named Chicken Point, located in the Duhai area under the Madhuban Bapudham police station limits. A customer, identified as Harsh Chaudhary, said he noticed suspicious behaviour while rotis were being prepared and discreetly recorded the scene on his phone.

The footage, around a minute long, shows a worker handling a roti, bringing it close to his mouth, and then placing it inside the tandoor. Another staff member is seen serving the freshly baked bread to customers. The worker in question was later identified as Javed Ansari, who has reportedly been employed at the restaurant for nearly five years.

Once the video began circulating on social media, it sparked strong reactions. Many users expressed anger and disgust, questioning food safety practices and calling for strict punishment. Some comments urged people to boycott the establishment, while others questioned the mindset behind such actions.

However, a section of viewers defended the worker, claiming he was not spitting but blowing away excess dry flour from the roti before baking—a technique some cooks use to help bread stick properly inside a tandoor. The clip’s ambiguity led to heated online debates.

Despite the differing interpretations, police acted quickly after the video went viral. Officials from Madhuban Bapudham police station reached the spot, inspected the premises, and detained the accused for questioning.

According to Suryabali Maurya, a case has been registered and further legal action is underway. Authorities confirmed that the restaurant employs around eight staff members and serves nearly 500 customers every day.

The incident has once again highlighted the importance of strict hygiene monitoring in food establishments, especially those catering to large numbers of people daily.
