Germany Halts Arms Exports to Israel Over Gaza City Occupation Plan

Germany has announced that it will suspend the export of military equipment to Israel, citing concerns over Israel’s plans to take control of Gaza City. Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that the move comes in response to Israel’s military strategy in Gaza, which Germany now finds increasingly difficult to support.

This decision marks a significant shift in Germany’s stance, as it has long been one of Israel’s strongest international allies. Merz emphasized that it is becoming harder to understand how Israel’s military actions in Gaza will achieve the legitimate goals of disarming Hamas and securing the release of hostages. He made it clear that the German government would not authorize any further military exports to Israel for use in Gaza until further notice.

In his statement, Merz highlighted the additional responsibility Israel now bears in providing humanitarian aid to Gaza’s civilians, and stressed the importance of allowing full access for UN organizations and other non-governmental institutions to deliver aid. The decision comes amid growing international concern over the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with reports from a UN-backed assessment warning that famine is unfolding.

Furthermore, Merz urged Israel to refrain from any further actions aimed at annexing the West Bank, echoing global concerns about the potential escalation of the conflict and its impact on peace prospects in the region.
