Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir praised the senior batting trio of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli after their commanding performance in the third ODI against Australia. India chased down the 237-run target with remarkable ease, led by a record-breaking 168-run partnership between Rohit and Kohli.
Speaking to the team in the dressing room after the victory, Gambhir highlighted the importance of the early momentum provided by the openers. He lauded the 69-run opening stand between Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, calling it “very important” for setting the tone of the chase.
“The partnership between Shubman and Rohit was very important when we were 60 for no loss. Then the stand between Rohit and Virat was outstanding. A special mention to another century — it was crucial that you both finished the game,” Gambhir said in a video shared by the BCCI.
The former Indian opener emphasized how crucial it was for both Rohit and Kohli to remain unbeaten and finish the chase, describing it as a reflection of India’s clinical approach in run pursuits.
Rohit Sharma, who was named Player of the Series, continued his fine form throughout the three-match series. Kohli, meanwhile, bounced back strongly after two consecutive ducks in the earlier games, silencing critics with a steady, composed knock alongside his longtime teammate.
After the match, Rohit hinted that the series against Australia might be his and Kohli’s final international outing on Australian soil. Both players, now veterans of Indian cricket, are expected to focus on maintaining form and fitness ahead of India’s upcoming home series against South Africa.
Gambhir’s praise marked a unifying moment in the dressing room, acknowledging not only the brilliance of the senior players but also the composure of the entire batting lineup that executed the chase to perfection.
