Dolby Laboratories and LG Electronics have jointly announced the world’s first soundbar audio system powered by Dolby Atmos FlexConnect, a technology designed to transform wireless speaker placement and room calibration in home audio. The new LG SCOTT soundbar system leverages FlexConnect to create a flexible, multi-speaker setup that calibrates itself to the acoustics of any room without cumbersome wiring or complex manual setup.
Traditional home theater systems often require careful placement of rear or surround speakers, precise channel assignment, and manual calibration to deliver an enveloping soundstage. FlexConnect removes those constraints by treating additional wireless speakers as adaptive channels. Once paired, the system automatically detects speaker positions, analyzes room acoustics, and configures audio routing to produce a cohesive, room-filling Dolby Atmos experience.
The LG SCOTT soundbar serves as the central hub and left/center/right front channel, while one or more FlexConnect-enabled wireless speakers act as adaptive surrounds or overhead height channels. Using integrated microphones and spatial processing, the system performs in-room tuning to balance output across speakers and prevent reflections or cancellations that can weaken immersion. This promises consistent audio quality in environments where ideal placement isn’t practical, such as living rooms with flexible layouts.
