Dhanashree Verma Breaks Silence on Divorce, Reacts to Chahal’s Viral ‘Sugar Daddy’ T-Shirt

Mumbai – Actor-dancer Dhanashree Verma has opened up about her divorce from cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal, sharing how emotional the final court hearing was and criticising Chahal’s choice of attire that day — a t-shirt with the words “Be Your Own Sugar Daddy.”

Speaking to Humans of Bombay, Dhanashree recalled breaking down in court as the verdict was announced. “Even though we were prepared mentally, I just couldn’t hold back. I was howling in front of everyone, unable to process what I was feeling. While I was crying, he quietly walked out first,” she said.

On Chahal’s T-Shirt

The t-shirt Chahal wore during the hearing became a talking point online. Dhanashree admitted she was upset by it: “You know that people will blame me. Before I even knew about this T-shirt stunt, I was aware that the blame would come my way. Are bhai, WhatsApp kar deta… t-shirt kyun pehna hai?” she said, adding a touch of sarcasm.

Social Media Reaction

Her candid remarks drew mixed reactions. While some mocked her for bringing up the incident, many applauded her honesty. Soon after, she reshared a follower’s note calling her “the most powerful girl” and thanked supporters for recognising her strength. This marked her first post since the interview went viral.

Chahal’s Side of the Story

Earlier, on Raj Shamani’s podcast, Chahal explained why he wore the controversial t-shirt, saying it was his way of leaving behind a message. He also strongly denied rumours of infidelity: “When I was going through the divorce, people labelled me a cheater. I have never cheated. I am loyal and I only give to my loved ones.”

Chahal said both had chosen silence during the proceedings: “It was going on for a long while. We decided we didn’t want to show the public. Until the very end, we appeared like a normal couple on social media.”
