Delhi Metro Fares Revised: Minimum Ticket Now ₹11, Maximum ₹64; First Hike Since 2017

New Delhi: Starting Monday, August 25, commuters in the national capital will have to pay more for metro travel as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced its first fare revision in eight years. The last increase was implemented in 2017.

According to DMRC, fares have gone up by ₹1 to ₹4 on most routes, while the Airport Express Line will see a rise of up to ₹5. Officials described the adjustment as “minimal,” but the move is expected to affect lakhs of daily riders across Delhi-NCR.

Commuters React

The fare hike has drawn mixed reactions from passengers. Sonia, a regular commuter, said the increase could be a burden on middle-class families. “Some people can afford it, but many cannot. Fares should remain as they are,” she said.

Another commuter, Armaan, felt the small increase was manageable but raised concerns over payment systems. “If 2-4 rupees are increased, that is not a problem. But the Metro card doesn’t work everywhere, and that needs to be fixed,” he said.

DMRC has assured that the revised fares aim to balance operational costs while keeping travel affordable for the majority of riders.
