Rajinikanth’s gangster drama Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, continues to perform strongly at the Indian box office, earning Rs 235.15 crore by its ninth day of release. The film, which had a spectacular opening with Rs 65 crore on its first day (August 14), saw a significant slowdown in its daily earnings after the initial surge.
Day 9 Collections and Weekend Prospects
According to early estimates by Sacnilk, Coolie earned Rs 5.50 crore on its ninth day, bringing its total domestic earnings to Rs 235.15 crore. While the film had a strong start, its performance has been somewhat inconsistent, with a notable decline in collections from Monday onward. The film’s upcoming weekend performance will be key to determining whether it can cross the Rs 250 crore milestone.
Box Office Occupancy
On Day 9 (August 22), Coolie recorded a 20.39% occupancy in Tamil, 17.64% in Telugu, and 10.18% in Hindi. While the Tamil and Telugu markets are performing relatively well, the Hindi market has not been as strong, limiting the film’s potential in broader regions.
Box Office Clash with ‘War 2’
Coolie is currently in a box office clash with War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani. Despite the competition, Coolie is holding strong, with a lead of nearly Rs 27 crore over War 2. On Day 9, War 2 collected Rs 4 crore, bringing its total to Rs 208.25 crore. Rajinikanth’s film has maintained a comfortable lead despite a slowdown in momentum after the opening weekend.
Star Cast and Cameo Surprises
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie features Rajinikanth in the titular role, alongside Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, and Sathyaraj. The film also includes a surprise cameo by Aamir Khan, which has added excitement for fans.
What’s Next for ‘Coolie’?
With Rs 235.15 crore already in the bag, the road ahead for Coolie will depend heavily on its weekend performance. The next couple of days will determine if the film can regain its pace and reach the Rs 250 crore mark.
