MS Dhoni’s latest sports venture, 7Padel, had a grand opening in Chennai on Thursday, but it was a fun-filled rally between Dhoni and music composer Anirudh Ravichander that stole the spotlight. The video of the duo playing padel together quickly went viral, adding a touch of star power to the debut of the new facility.

Located in Palavakkam, ECR, the sprawling 20,000-square-foot 7Padel complex is equipped with three padel courts, a pickleball court, a swimming pool, gym, recovery room, café, and sauna, making it a hub for both fitness enthusiasts and families. Chennai Super Kings skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad also joined the festivities, marking the significance of the event in Chennai.

Speaking at the launch, Dhoni expressed his deep connection with the city, saying, “Chennai has always been special to me. The city has given me so much on and off the field, and it feels only right to launch my first padel centre here.” He emphasized that padel is an exciting, accessible, and inclusive sport suitable for everyone—not just professionals. Dhoni hopes 7Padel will become a place where athletes, families, and fitness lovers can come together.

Padel is a racquet sport that blends elements of tennis and squash. Played on an enclosed court smaller than a tennis court, it is typically played in doubles, offering a fast-paced and social experience. Dhoni’s investment in the sport aims to introduce it to a wider audience in India.

As for the viral video, Anirudh, fresh from his music commitments, showed off his skills on the court alongside Dhoni, exchanging rallies with his trademark smile. The video quickly garnered attention, making the 7Padel launch a memorable event, with Dhoni’s presence sure to elevate padel’s profile in India.
