Bareilly, September 17: A dramatic series of events in Kamalupur village of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, has caught widespread attention after two members of the same extended family eloped within a day of each other, in what villagers have dubbed a rare “love swap.”
The sequence began when 28-year-old Keshav Kumar reportedly left home with his 19-year-old sister-in-law, Kalpana. Just a day later, Keshav’s brother-in-law, Ravindra, eloped with Keshav’s 19-year-old sister, an act that locals believe was prompted by resentment over the first incident.
The back-to-back elopements sparked tension between the families, leading to police complaints at Nawabganj police station. According to officials, both couples went missing last month under Deoranian police station limits. They were later traced by the police—Keshav and Kalpana on September 14, followed by Ravindra and Keshav’s sister on September 15.
Nawabganj Station House Officer (SHO) Arun Kumar Srivastava confirmed that all four individuals were found safe. The families were then called to the station for discussions. Community elders also joined in to help mediate and prevent the dispute from escalating further.
In a surprising turn, both households agreed not to pursue legal action. Instead, they accepted the couples’ choices and decided to settle the matter amicably. Police have since closed the case, and the couples are now living with the acceptance of their families.
The unusual episode, while initially shocking, ended with a peaceful resolution, ensuring calm in the village after days of drama.
