Mumbai: Actor Anil Kapoor took a nostalgic trip down memory lane as he celebrated 25 years of his film Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai (2000). Marking the milestone on Instagram, Kapoor shared little-known details about the making of the film — including how co-star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan nearly walked away from the project just before shooting began.
Aishwarya Almost Backed Out
Anil revealed that while they were filming Taal, he was struck by Aishwarya’s acting talent and recommended her to producer Boney Kapoor and director Satish Kaushik. Though there were initial doubts, Kaushik was convinced after watching her perform on set.
However, just before Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai went on floors, Aishwarya almost backed out. “Satish and I went to her home, had a heartfelt conversation, and thankfully, she decided to stay on board. And I’m so glad she did, because her performance was phenomenal and the film went on to become a super hit,” Anil wrote.
Tribute to Satish Kaushik
Kapoor also paid tribute to his late friend and director Satish Kaushik. “Looking back at Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai as it completes 25 years, my heart is filled with memories of my dearest friend Satish Kaushik. Grateful for the memories, the magic we created, and for my friend Satish, whom I miss dearly every day,” he shared.
The Film’s Legacy
Released on August 24, 2000, Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai tackled sensitive themes such as sexual assault, single parenting, and finding love after trauma, while still carrying the melodramatic charm of early 2000s Bollywood. The film starred Aishwarya as Preeti, a survivor rebuilding her life, and Anil Kapoor as Avinash, who stands by her.
This marked the duo’s second collaboration after Taal and cemented their on-screen pairing as one of the era’s most memorable. The film went on to become a commercial success and remains a defining romantic drama of its time.
