Man Assaulted Over The Conjuring: Last Rites Spoilers in Pune Theatre, Police Involved

A shocking altercation at a Pune theatre over spoilers for The Conjuring: Last Rites led to a brawl, with a man being assaulted during the screening of the horror film. The incident highlights just how seriously some moviegoers take the suspense and surprise of a highly anticipated film.

The latest installment in The Conjuring series, Last Rites, has had a strong opening in India, grossing over ₹60 crore in its first weekend, making it the highest-grossing horror film debut in the country. This has clearly generated a large fan base, with audiences eagerly protecting the film’s plot twists from being revealed.

Incident Details

The incident took place on Tuesday night at a multiplex in Pimpri Chinchwad, Pune. According to the police, a 29-year-old software professional and his wife were watching The Conjuring: Last Rites when the altercation occurred. The accused, sitting in the back row with his wife, was reportedly narrating the plot aloud, which disturbed the complainant and others around him.

When the complainant asked the man to stop revealing spoilers and disrupting the film, the situation escalated. The accused allegedly verbally abused the complainant and then physically attacked him. When the complainant’s wife intervened, both the accused and his wife assaulted her as well.

Police Involvement

The complainant, who suffered minor injuries, filed a police report the following day. A case has been registered at Chinchwad police station under sections 117 (abetting offence in public), 115 (abetment), 352 (assault), and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code. However, no arrests have been made as of now.

The Conjuring: Last Rites Box Office Success

Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, The Conjuring: Last Rites has been a box office success. The film, which marks the final chapter of the Conjuring franchise, follows the real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, in their final adventure. The film’s suspenseful plot and supernatural themes have attracted a strong audience, contributing to its box office earnings, which have now exceeded ₹61 crore in India and $210 million globally.
