Spotify is rolling out a suite of new personalization tools for its Premium users, aimed at refining how they discover and manage their music. The update introduces smart filters, enhanced playlist controls, and more ways to interact with the AI DJ, giving users greater flexibility and control over their listening sessions.
Key Features of the Spotify Update
1. Smart Filters for Your Library
Spotify now allows users to instantly sort their saved content by activity, mood, or genre using the new Smart Filters. Whether you’re creating a playlist for running, selecting a podcast for relaxation, or picking an audiobook for a road trip, this feature helps with quick customization. It is currently available to Premium users in select countries like the US and UK, with plans to expand to more regions soon.
How it works:
- Tap the filter icon in the top left of Your Library.
- A menu of options appears, organized by activity, mood, or genre.
- Select a filter, and your library updates to match your choice.
2. Hide Songs That Don’t Match Your Mood
Now, you can hide tracks that don’t suit your current mood. Simply tap the three dots on the Now Playing screen and select “Hide in this playlist” to prevent the track from playing in future sessions.
3. Snooze Tracks for 30 Days
With the new Snooze feature, Premium users can pause recommendations for specific tracks for 30 days. This feature gives users a temporary break from certain songs without removing them permanently from their library.
4. Refresh Discover Weekly by Genre
Spotify has added the ability to refresh your Discover Weekly playlist by genre. By tapping personalized genre buttons like pop, funk, or R&B, you can generate a new 30-track mix based on your listening history and the selected genre.
5. Take Control of Your Queue
Spotify’s redesigned queue offers more control for Premium users. You can now shuffle, use Smart Shuffle, repeat, or add a Sleep Timer. Additionally, recommendations will appear after the queue ends, but users can turn off Autoplay or Smart Shuffle in the settings for complete control over what plays next.
6. Custom Playlist Experience
Playlist management has received a boost with new options to add, sort, and edit tracks. You can also change playlist titles and create custom cover art. In select markets, Premium users can generate new playlists from their Liked Songs, filtering by genre or mood.
7. Talk to Your AI DJ
One of the most exciting features is the ability for Premium users to interact with the AI DJ using voice commands. By tapping and holding the DJ button, users can request music by mood, genre, or vibe. The AI DJ will then update the session accordingly, helping users discover new songs or revisit old favorites.
